Illinois American Water, Jersey Co. Rural Water issues boil order
ALTON, IL (KTVI) – A boil order is affecting hundreds of water customers in Illinois. The order was issued after a water main break in Madison County. Now customers of the Illinois Water’s Alton District as well as Jersey County Rural Water customers in specific areas are being asked to boil their water.
Here are the cities/counties affected:
Illinois Water customers living in Godfrey, Grafton, Elsah, (Principia College and Joywood included) and a portion of Alton. St. Anthony’s Hospital, Alton Memorial Hospital and customers near the immediate downtown Alton area are not affected.
Jersey County Rural Water customers living in parts of Madison, Jersey, Greene, and Macoupin counties should also boil their water.
Other customers affected include the Brighton and Fosterburg Water District.
The boil order will be in effect until safe water quality samples have been confirmed. All water used for drinking and cooking should be brought to a rolling boil for 5 minutes prior to consumption. Water is approved for bathing, washing and other common uses.
